Pragyan Bharadwaj NPTEL Journey: 61 NPTEL courses. 12 exams in 6 days. One journey from learner to researcher. Pragyan Bharadwaj shows how consistency can quietly shape extraordinary outcomes. His story is not built on shortcuts or sudden breakthroughs, but on steady effort, disciplined learning, and a deep interest in understanding concepts.
Beginning his journey as a Mechanical Engineering student in Guwahati, learning initially felt routine — until he discovered that courses from IITs were accessible through NPTEL. What started with curiosity through courses like Weldability of Metals and Waste to Energy Conversion soon turned into something deeper — a habit of truly understanding concepts, not just completing them.
Pragyan Bharadwaj NPTEL Journey: A Simple Beginning That Changed Direction
Pragyan began as a Mechanical Engineering student in Guwahati, where learning initially followed the usual classroom pattern. Things shifted when he discovered NPTEL — a platform that opened access to courses from India’s top institutes.
What started with curiosity soon became a routine. Courses like Weldability of Metals and Waste to Energy Conversion were not just completed for certificates. They helped him build clarity in core concepts, something many students struggle with in traditional learning environments.
The Turning Point: 11 Exams in 6 Days
During the pandemic, Pragyan faced a defining challenge. He attempted 12 NPTEL exams in just six days and successfully cleared 11 of them.
This wasn’t just about passing exams. It was proof of a system he had built for himself — consistent study, concept clarity, and the ability to stay focused under pressure. That phase set the pace for what he later described as an extended learning journey that continued through his B.Tech and M.Tech in Energy Technology.
Pragyan Bharadwaj NPTEL Journey: 61 Courses and a Second Campus
Over time, NPTEL became more than an online platform — it turned into his second campus. Completing 61 courses is not just a number; it reflects years of disciplined effort.
His achievements were recognized through titles like:
- Believer
- Motivated Learner
- Enthusiast
- Superstar
- Megastar
He also earned domain certifications in Production, Manufacturing, and Energy Systems, building a strong academic base across multiple fields.
When Preparation Meets Opportunity
One of the most practical outcomes of his consistent learning came when he studied Theory of Machines, a subject many engineering students find difficult.
Thanks to prior learning from IIT Madras courses on NPTEL, he approached the subject with confidence. It eventually became his highest-scoring paper and later helped him in competitive exams as well.
This is where consistent preparation shows its real value — not in isolated success, but in repeated advantage across different stages.

From Learner to Researcher at IIT Guwahati
The journey did not stop at coursework. Pragyan moved into research through the NPTEL pre-doctoral fellowship, joining a project at IIT Guwahati.
Working on a solar dryer project, he stepped into applied research:
- Designing experiments
- Analyzing real data
- Contributing to practical solutions
This transition from theory to application marked a significant shift. It showed how structured self-learning can lead directly to research opportunities.
More Than Certificates
For Pragyan, NPTEL was never just about collecting certificates. It changed how he approached learning itself.
He focused on:
- Understanding over memorizing
- Consistency over intensity
- Curiosity beyond syllabus limits
That mindset is what carried him from a regular student to someone actively contributing to research.
