Gujarat Election Results Today: A Massive Electoral Exercise

The elections, held on April 26–27 and counted on April 28, covered a vast democratic landscape:

    • 15 Municipal Corporations
    • 84 Municipalities
    • 34 District Panchayats
    • 260 Taluka Panchayats

More than 9,000 seats were contested, with over 4 crore voters eligible to participate, making it one of Gujarat’s largest grassroots elections.

    BJP’s Dominance Across the Board

The headline story is clear: BJP’s near-total dominance.

    • The party won all 15 municipal corporations, marking a historic clean sweep.
    • It maintained a strong lead in both urban and rural bodies, including district and taluka panchayats.
    • In many newly formed corporations like Navsari and Morbi, the BJP secured overwhelming seat shares, often crossing 90% of seats.

Early counting trends showed the BJP leading in hundreds of seats, far ahead of rivals, reinforcing its organizational strength and voter base across Gujarat.
Gujarat Civic Poll Results 2026: BJP Dominates Across Major Cities and Towns

The Gujarat local body election results have highlighted a decisive surge for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the party securing commanding victories across key municipal corporations and mid-sized urban centres.

Gujarat Election Results Today: Ahmedabad and Surat Lead the Wave

In the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, which has a total of 192 seats, the BJP delivered a landslide performance by winning 158 seats. The Congress managed to secure 22 seats, while other parties remained largely marginal.

Strong Hold in Rajkot, Vadodara, and Bhavnagar

The BJP’s dominance continued across other major cities:

    • In Rajkot (72 seats), the BJP clinched 65 seats, while Congress secured 7. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to win any seats.
    • Vadodara (76 seats) saw BJP win 69 seats, with Congress taking 6 seats. AAP again failed to open its account.
    • In Bhavnagar (52 seats), BJP secured 44 seats, while Congress won 8, with AAP drawing a blank once more.

These results underline the BJP’s strong urban voter base and weak opposition presence in key regions.

BJP Leads Comfortably in Mid-Sized Cities

The trend remained consistent in several mid-sized municipalities:

    • Karmasad-Anand (52 seats): BJP won 43 seats, Congress 8, and one seat went to an Independent candidate.
    • Gandhidham (52 seats): BJP secured 41 seats, while Congress won 11.
    • Nadiad (52 seats): BJP nearly swept the board with 51 seats, leaving Congress with just one.
    • Navsari (52 seats): BJP dominated with 50 seats, while Congress managed only 2.

    Complete Sweep in Several Areas

In some regions, the BJP achieved total control:

    • Porbandar (52 seats) and Morbi (52 seats) saw the BJP win every single seat.
    • Surendranagar (52 seats) also witnessed near-total dominance, with the BJP taking 51 seats and Congress just one.

Gujarat Election Results Today: Other Key Municipal Results

    • Mehsana (52 seats): BJP secured 47 seats, while Congress won 5.
    • Vapi (52 seats): BJP won 37 seats, Congress 11, and Independents secured 4 seats.
    • Jamnagar (64 seats): BJP bagged 54 seats, while Congress and AAP secured 2 seats each.

Ahmedabad and Key Cities: Clear Lead

In major urban centers, the BJP maintained its dominance:

    • In the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the BJP crossed the 90-seat mark early in counting.
    • Strong performances were also recorded in cities like Vadodara, Jamnagar, and Gandhidham.

Even in newly created municipal corporations, the party secured commanding leads, showing its expanding urban reach.

    Opposition: Limited Gains, Scattered Wins

The opposition parties struggled to mount a consistent challenge:

    • The Congress managed a few symbolic victories, including wins in select wards and municipalities like Dabhoi.
    • The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to achieve a breakthrough despite contesting aggressively.
    • Smaller players like AIMIM made limited inroads in select regions such as Bhuj and Bharuch.

There were isolated surprises, including close contests and narrow-margin victories, but these did not alter the broader trend.

    Notable Upsets and Close Contests

Despite the BJP’s dominance, a few results stood out:

    • Congress won some seats in traditional BJP strongholds.
    • A few candidates won by razor-thin margins, including victories decided by a single vote.
    • Individual leaders, including senior BJP figures in some districts, faced unexpected defeats.

These pockets of resistance highlight that while the overall mandate is one-sided, local dynamics still matter.

Gujarat Election Results Today: What This Means Politically

This result is more than just a local election outcome. It carries broader political implications:

    • It strengthens the BJP’s position ahead of the 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections.
    • It reflects strong grassroots support in both urban and rural Gujarat.
    • It exposes organizational weaknesses in opposition parties, especially Congress and AAP.

As one analysis noted, the results show BJP’s dominance “across municipal corporations, municipalities, and panchayat bodies,” leaving the opposition with serious strategic challenges.
